Questions

Which formats can I convert from?
Anything your browser can play: MP3, WAV, M4A and AAC, OGG and Opus, FLAC, WebM, and the sound from MP4 and MOV videos. Chrome and Edge read the most formats; if a recording won’t open in one browser, try another.
Which format should I choose?
MP3 plays on every phone, computer and car. M4A (AAC) sounds the same in a smaller file and suits Apple devices; it’s offered where your browser can make it. WAV loses no quality at all, but its files are about ten times larger.
Which quality should I pick?
Recommended (192 kbit/s) is hard to tell from the original for most music. 128 kbit/s is plenty for speech, podcasts and voice notes, in a third less space. 320 kbit/s is the most MP3 can hold, for music you care about.
Will converting improve the sound?
No. Converting keeps the quality a recording has, but it can’t bring back detail that an earlier compression removed. Converting an MP3 to WAV makes a larger file that sounds the same.
Can I convert many files at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like; they’re converted one after another and download together as one zip.
What does it use to make MP3 and M4A files?
MP3s are made by LAME, the long-standing open-source MP3 encoder, and M4A files by your browser’s own AAC encoder, through the open-source mediabunny library. Their licences are at miscdisc.app/licenses/README.txt.
Are my recordings uploaded?
No. They are converted by your browser, on your device, and saved straight back to it.
