Cut and trim audio

Keep the part you want, or cut a part out, and fade in and out. It happens on your device: nothing is uploaded.

How to cut and trim audio

  1. Choose a recording, or drop it anywhere on this page.
  2. Drag the two handles on the waveform, or type the start and end times, and play the selection to check it.
  3. Choose whether to keep the selection or cut it out, and any fades.
  4. Select Save, then download the result.

Your files stay on your device

This tool runs inside your browser: your recordings are processed on your device and never uploaded. Your browser enforces which servers the page may talk to, and none of them is sent your files. Here's how you can check. Once you've used it, it works offline too.

Questions

How do I make a ringtone?
Select the 20 to 30 seconds you want, choose Keep the selection and a short fade in and out, and save it. iPhones want M4A (offered where your browser can make it); Android phones take MP3.
How do I remove a part from the middle?
Select the part to remove, choose Cut the selection out, and save. The two sides are joined with a crossfade too short to hear, so there’s no click at the join.
Can I set the times exactly?
Yes. Type the start and end into the boxes under the waveform, as minutes and seconds (1:23.5) or just seconds (83.5).
Does trimming lower the quality?
Saving as WAV loses nothing. MP3 and M4A are compressed again when saved, which at Recommended quality or above is very hard to hear.
How long can the recording be?
It depends on your device’s memory: an hour is usually fine on a computer, and phones manage shorter recordings. If one is too long, you’ll be told.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. It is trimmed by your browser, on your device, and saved straight back to it.
