Open ZIP, RAR and 7z files

Look inside a ZIP, RAR, 7z or tar archive, preview what’s there, and take out just the files you need. It happens on your device: nothing is uploaded.

How to open ZIP, RAR and 7z files

  1. Choose an archive, or drop it anywhere on this page. Its folders and files are listed with their sizes and dates.
  2. Select a file’s name to preview it, or tick the files and folders you want.
  3. Download one file, the ones you ticked, or everything as a ZIP.

Your files stay on your device

This tool runs inside your browser: your archives are processed on your device and never uploaded. Your browser enforces which servers the page may talk to, and none of them is sent your files. Here's how you can check. Once you've used it, it works offline too.

Questions

Which archives can it open?
ZIP (including Windows “compressed folders”, and ZIPs locked with a password, old-style or AES), 7z (with or without a password), RAR (RAR 5 and the older RAR 4), and tar, alone or compressed as .tar.gz, .tgz, .tar.bz2 or .tar.xz. A lone .gz, .bz2 or .xz file works too.
Is my archive uploaded?
No. Your browser reads it from your device a piece at a time, and the files you take out are made on your device too. Nothing is sent anywhere.
What about encrypted archives?
For a ZIP or 7z locked with a password, enter the password when asked and the files come out as usual. Encrypted RAR files can’t be opened here yet, though you can still see what’s inside unless the file names are hidden too.
Why does taking out one file sometimes take a while?
Some archives are “solid”: everything is compressed as one stream (common for 7z and RAR, and every .tar.gz). To reach one file, the files before it have to be unpacked first. ZIPs don’t work that way, so any file comes out quickly.
Can it open split archives?
Not yet. Archives split into parts (like .part1.rar, .7z.001 or .z01) need all their parts joined, which this page doesn’t do.
How big can an archive be?
As big as your device can handle: the archive is read in pieces rather than loaded whole, so even very large archives list in moments, and only the files you ask for are unpacked.
