Extract audio from a video
Save a video’s sound on its own, as MP3 or M4A. It happens on your device: nothing is uploaded.
How to extract audio from video
- Choose the videos, or drop them anywhere on this page.
- Pick MP3 or M4A.
- Select Extract audio, then download the results.
Your files stay on your device
This tool runs inside your browser: your videos are processed on your device and never uploaded. Your browser enforces which servers the page may talk to, and none of them is sent your files. Here's how you can check. Once you've used it, it works offline too.
Questions
- MP3 or M4A?
- M4A keeps the sound exactly as it is in most videos (MP4 and MOV usually hold AAC sound, which M4A is), so nothing is lost and it takes seconds. MP3 plays on every device and in every app, re-encoded at the quality you pick.
- Which MP3 quality should I pick?
- Recommended (192 kbit/s) is hard to tell from the original for most music. 128 kbit/s is plenty for talks, lectures and voices, in a third less space. 320 kbit/s is the most MP3 can hold.
- Can I keep only part of the sound?
- Extract the whole of it here, then use Cut and trim audio to keep the part you want.
- What does it use to make MP3s?
- LAME, the long-standing open-source MP3 encoder, running in your browser. Its licence is at miscdisc.app/licenses/README.txt.
- Are my videos uploaded?
- No. The sound is taken out by your browser, on your device, and saved straight back to it.
